A year later, the production version – one that was quite similar to the year-old concept – saw the light of day at the New York Auto Show. Right away, I filed the design off as precarious, as it’s one of those vehicles that doesn’t really fall into the car, crossover, or SUV categories. When we originally reviewed the standard GLC Coupe, we pointed out that, at the time, the car had seen some wildly mixed opinions. To put it simply, it’s one of those vehicles that you either hate or love, with little to middle ground anywhere in sight. It’s nothing new and all of which we’ve experienced in the GLC SUV. There’s space for 5 individuals inside the car but not so much space for their luggage. The sloping roof line eats into the boot space and though it has 550 litres of it, it’s still not good enough. What worsens the space is the space saver spare as it sits on the boot floor thereby eating up into a lot of space at the back.

You then are left to make a choice between your bags or the spare wheel and that’s a tough one to crack. Having said that, the cabin is a great place to be in and it’s got the sporty bits too.Being an AMG, it gets sporty all black interiors with red stitching all over. The seats have them, the steering wheel and so does the dashboard. Even the seatbelts are red! There is a flat-bottomed steering wheel with paddle shifters, and black and grey chequered patterned dials. The seats are good too and a big guy like me could easily fit into them thanks to the good side bolstering. And you really understand how well you’re tucked in when you encounter some twisties.
